Guy Inchbald

This is just a boring page for the odd bit of useful stuff. Insanity may be provided on request.

I have been doing a bit of category gardening on LXF Wiki, adding some Help pages and generally scattering bad jokes around the place :-)

About me

A freelance technical consultant and author by profession, I am a kind of perpetual Linux n00b. Decades of experience have unearthed phobias for vi, emacs, grep, sed, awk, even cat. I can just about cope with telnet, ls, mkdir, rm, ftp and the like, but I prefer Gedit and ROX cos I don't have to keep looking up all those extensions and switches I can never remember (nothing to do with WYSIWYG, apart maybe from drag-and-drop, just that the world of extensions and switches is so horribly inconsistent).

My other pet hate is the utter unrelated-ness in terms of grammar and syntax of (X)/(D)/HTML, CSS, javascript, PHP/ASP/JSP/Rails/etc. and SQL. Oh, for a single language to write a whole web application in! Oh yes, and not ONE of them does transclusion in any useful way! Even this dodgy old version of MediaWiki on here does transclusion. Rubbish, the lot of 'em. Look, I've made a start already!

  • Philosophy - especially of self, science and religion.
  • Headache prevention (sigh) - especially diet, physical therapies and accupuncture.

Panscript is a proposed language for web/document authoring. One language for creating, processing and delivering page content, whether on the web or in printed documents or, hopefully, other access media such as speech synthesis and Braille.

LXF Wiki - current issues

Broken images

Template:Brokenimage is supposed to add pages to Category:Broken images but it ain't working.

Workaround: add the category as well as the template.

Also, go to Template:Brokenimage and click What links here.

LXFWiki namespace

Um. Why does the LXF Wiki namespace show up in the All pages list, but the LXFWiki namespace does not?

User:AllizEldar created the Wiki page with only token (garbage) content. Um.
