Portable

Portable programs can be recompiled on other computers, even if they have entirely different CPUs. Non-portable software is often written in machine code, and will only run on the computer for which it was designed. Portable software, such as Mozilla Firefox, will compile on various OSes (such as Linux and Windows), and run very similarly on them.
