Introduction
Ubuntu is derivative of Debian and is generally aimed at newbies/n00bs/windows types. From the tag line:
Ubuntu - linux for human beings
Basically it's Debian wrapped up in nice fuzzy warm blankets that makes it really nice and easy to use :)

User Opinions
bluemonki: I run Ubuntu on my main computer and on my Apple iBook, it's so nice and shiny and Dapper Drake also supports AirportExtreme wireless gubbins which is ace.
Miackus: I started out with linux Ubuntu was version 6.10. I've since moved on but it got me hooked on linux in general. Ubuntu worked fine and detected all my hardware without hassle. Definitely one of those distros I'd suggest to those thinking of trying linux.
