PNG can mean:

  • Papua New Guinea.
  • Portable Network Graphics - a bitmap image file format.

The PNG image format is best for web bitmaps, because:

  • It is free and open.
  • It does alpha-channel (graded) transparency.
  • It copes equally well with photographs, cartoons and screenshots.
