Competition Rules

1. Entries must be posted online, reach lxf.competitions@futurenet.co.uk or Linux Format, Future Publishing, 30 Monmouth Street, Bath BA1 2BW no later than 2nd April 2007. By submitting their entry entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules.

2. The winner will be announced in LXF96 and the winner will be notified personally as soon as practicable either before or after this.

3. The competition is open to all readers, except employees of Future plc or Novell inc, any of their wholly owned subsidiaries or any marketing services agency, handling house or other company involved directly with the administration of this competition, or any member of their households.

4. There is no limt to the number of entries each household may submit. Responsibility cannot be accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed in transit to the address at Rule 1. Proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Correspondence will be entered into only at the absolute discretion of Future Publishing Limited.

5. Entries will be published online for voting at www.linuxformat.co.uk/makeitwithmono on 2nd April 2007.

6. Entries that would require proprietary software to be developed or infringe on patented technology will be disqualified under the terms of the GPL. Pornographic or offensive entries will also be disqualified.

7. The winning entry will be the one that receives most votes at www.linuxformat.co.uk/makeitwithmono by 2nd May 2007.

8. The prize will be for the winning idea to be made into a working application using the Mono development framework. Future Publishing Limited may in its absolute discretion substitute cash value for the prize.

9. The winning application will be published under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later.

10. There are 30 Mono T-shirts available as prizes for runners-up. Future Publishing Limited may in its absolute discretion substitute cash value for the prize.

11. Entrants accept that if they win, Future Publishing Limited will have the right, without additional payment or permission, to use their name, age, town of residence and likeness for the purposes of announcing the winner of this competition and for related promotional purposes.

12. All entries will become the property of Future Publishing Limited on its receipt of them and will not be returned. Entrants hereby provide Future Publishing Limited with an irrevocable non-exclusive worldwide licence to use the competition entry in any manner and hereby waive all moral rights in the entry.

13. The name of the winner and the winning entry will be sent to anyone who writes within three months after the closing date, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope, to the postal address in Rule 1 above, requesting details of the winning entry.


Terms and conditions

These rules and any other rules specified by Future Publishing Limited or any of its group of companies (the "Company") from time to time ("Competition Rules") apply to any competition which is run on or through this Website or any other website operated by or on behalf of the Company ("Competition"). By taking part in a Competition, you agree to be bound by the Competition Rules and by the decisions of the Company which are final in all matters relating to the Competition. The Company reserves the right to disqualify any entrant and/or winner in its absolute discretion for any reason and without notice in accordance with the Competition rules.

Unless otherwise notified, no purchase is necessary to enter a Competition. You may be offered the chance to subscribe for a free newsletter but failing to do this will not disqualify you from a Competition. Prizes may be provided by a third party sponsor of the Competition. The Company reserves the right in its sole discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of comparable value.

All entries must be received by the deadline for that Competition and late or incomplete entries may, in the absolute discretion of the Company, be disqualified. Proof of posting shall not be deemed proof of delivery. No responsibility can be accepted for entries which are lost, delayed, misdirected or corrupted during delivery to or from the Company due to any computer malfunction, virus, bug, delay or failure of the postal service or other reason whatsoever.

By entering a Competition you grant the Company and any sponsor(s) of the Competition (the "Competition Sponsor") permission to (a) use your name and likeness for the purpose of administering and organising the Competition and for advertising and promotional purposes; and (b) disclose your name and any other information you provide to the Company to third parties appointed by the Company including the Competition Sponsor for the purpose of administering and organising the Competition.

By entering a Competition you:

   (a) grant the Company the right free of charge to feature your Competition entry in any magazine published or any website created by or on behalf of the Company and all licensed editions of the same throughout the world;

   (b) irrevocably and unconditionally waive any moral rights or similar rights you have in your Competition entry whether such rights arise pursuant to the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 (the "Act") or equivalent legislation anywhere in the world, save that the Company shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that you are credited as the author of the Competition entry;

   (c) warrant to the Company that the Competition entry is wholly original to you and not wholly or substantially copied from any other material and that the Competition entry does not libel, defame, cause injury to, offend or invade the privacy of or otherwise infringe or violate any statutory, common law, regulatory or intellectual property rights of any third party;

   (d) consent to the Company passing your name and address to any third party appointed by the Company or any Competition Sponsor to administer and organise the Competition and/or to deliver the prize or prizes to you.

Winner(s) will be notified by e-mail as soon as reasonably practicable after the Competition draw/decision. If you are a winner, you may have to provide additional information and/or complete additional documents and return them to the Company within a specified period. Failure to provide additional information and/or complete additional documents within the required time period, or notification returned as undeliverable as addressed will result in your disqualification as a winner and an alternative winner will be selected.

The receipt by you of any prize is conditional upon you complying with any and all applicable laws, rules and regulations including, without limitation, the Competition Rules. Unless otherwise stated in the prize description, winners are solely responsible for all costs and expenses associated with claiming the prize including, without limitation, delivery costs.

The Company reserves the right to implement age requirements or other eligibility criteria in its absolute discretion. Unless otherwise stated, Competitions are not open to: (a) persons who are not resident in the United Kingdom; (b) the employees, agents or subcontractors of the Company; (c) any Competition sponsor or its employees, agents or subcontractors; (d) the immediate families of such employees or sponsors.

If you are a winner of a Competition you acknowledge and agree that the Company, any Competition Sponsor and each of their employees, agents and subcontractors shall have no liability whatsoever in connection with the use or possession of any of the prizes awarded pursuant to Competition, provided that nothing in these Competition Rules shall exclude or limit the liability of any party for personal injury or death caused by negligence or for anything else which cannot be excluded or limited by law.
