I have had repeated problems trying to get Ubuntu to accept my password, which I know is correct.
Not the latest computer, Athlon 3.2 Gb 2 GB memory. 32 bit.
I bit the bullet and from LXF coverdisks tried a fresh install of 13.10 which failed to install, then 13.04 which also would not install so back to 12.04 coverdisk and installed that (probably keeping my original home partition.
Originally I had set automatic install but nevertheless was presented with the login screen but my password was not accepted. If I booted into recovery mode my same password was ok!
I then opted to boot as 'Guest' and with sudo accepting my password I reset my 'name' user to the original password, logged out but still can not log in.
I created a new user 'name1' using the same password and can get access every login ok.
I would like to solve mu original login problem out of interest sake.
If I cannot solve that, is it Ok to delete the original 'name' directory after I have transferred my home documents to the new user?
Your suggestions appreciated.
