can not log into Ubuntu Default desktop

Postby Narendra » Sat Oct 19, 2013 10:13 am

Hello,
I installed Cinnamon but did not like it so removed it but can not log in to Ubuntu Default desktop with my password. Have upgraded to 13.10.

Please advise.

I had the same problem with 13.04 and had to reset Unity.

See: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2013/08/reset-unity-and-compiz-in-ubuntu-13-10/

for 13.10

Basically just do:
Code: Select all
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
setsid unity
unity --reset-icons

in a terminal, log out and log back in.

Hopefully that will work for you as well.

EDIT: You'll need to do the following first
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

And see also here (if the above fails):
