I installed wubi a while ago, but now have dual booted my laptop so have no need for wubi. I am trying to remove/uninstall/etc etc but i cannot. I have followed the instuctions here but to no avail.

Ubuntu is not listed in the add or remove programs and i do not have a C:/ubuntu

Any ideas?

THanks

never for a moment thought you were, my "humour" is often lost on people Wink

Did you specify somewhere other than C:/Ubuntu when you used WUBI? and have you tried the manual method?
I'm merely clutching at straws here as I haven't tried wubi in earnest for quite a while Wink

I have searched for any folders called ubuntu in C:/ (the only partition winblob can see) and only found some old iso images.
As i cannot find 'ubuntu' i havn't been able to do the manual (not that i have tried)

I'm wondering if the installation of a dual boot set-up with the same GRUB has recognised the WUBI installation and deleted that in the process of installing to a separate partition.

Does the GRUB boot menu (/boot/grub/menu.lst) show the WUBI boot option?

, so no wubi here. When you select Ms winblob another screen loads (providing I haven't hibernatted) and asks me whether i want to load ubuntu 8.10 or MS winblob.

As a matter of curiosity, with that option to load UB 8.10, what happens if you select it?
If it doesn't run, perhaps all except the vestigial remains in the boot process have been removed

Erm, interesting story.... I didn't think of doing that dandnsmith.... well.... it sort of just loads a grub screen with some commands at the top.
(eg
Code:

grub>

)

so erm, it may seem that it is not there. Now, how to remove that second boot screen....

Follow the instructions at How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP. You should only need something like the following in your "BOOT.INI" file:
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

my current boot.ini file is
Code:

[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /forceresetreg
c:\wubildr.mbr="Ubuntu"

So do i just delete the last line? Is there a way to just comment it out without deleteing so if it breaks i still have it?
