About Linux Format

News, reviews, features and tutorials - your complete guide to the world of Linux

Whether you've just discovered Linux, or you're a full-time guru, Linux Format has everything you need to make the most of your OS. Published monthly and sold around the world, the leading UK Linux magazine highlights the latest developments in the world of open source, examines new software and book releases, and shows you how to go further with our hands-on tutorials.

Each month, Linux Format includes:

  • All the latest news and analysis from the Linux scene
  • In-depth reviews of new software and book releases
  • Extensive features on apps, trends and the community
  • Revealing interviews with key Linux players
  • Detailed tutorials - from basics to programming

You also get a 4GB cover DVD featuring the best new distros (eg Mandriva, SUSE and Ubuntu) along with stacks of software - desktop apps, development tools and games, to keep you up-to-date. Plus, the disc includes extra guides and tutorials.

Since its launch in March 2000, Linux Format has run tutorials on software development, server management, using KDE to its full potential, exploring OpenOffice.org, mastering Emacs, and much more. We've interviewed Alan Cox and Larry Wall, and we've run features on speeding up your Linux machine and building your own distro.

See these sample articles (PDFs): Slashdot-proofing your server, LMMS review, and a tutorial on file searching.

Meet the team

Paul Hudson

Editor Paul keeps Team LXF in check, dreaming up new feature ideas, responding to reader queries and challenging everyone in a 50m radius to a game of Crack Attack. He's a veritable coding machine with a particular proclivity for C# and PHP.
Graham Morrison

Our Reviews Editor is a master of wheat/chaff sorting, plucking out the most interesting new software and hardware products to test. He uses KDE and has spent the GDP of a small European country on synthesisers and similar audio kit.
Mike Saunders

When he's not making the LXF DVD or running this website in his role as New Media Editor, Mike enjoys toying with Xfce, hacking on his MikeOS operating system, and engaging in flame wars with anyone who believes that Mozart is better than JS Bach. Pfft.
Efrain Hernandez-Mendosa

'Effy' is the magazine's Art Editor, and spends his (work)days meticulously designing pages. Outside the office, Effy enjoys playing football while wearing a large sombrero and wailing "no me gusta" at the offside rule.
